Recently I experienced a very personal and powerful loss, which brought some issues to mind. My Grandmother rejected religious and political fundamentalism and extremism and lived by a progressive, purist Christian gospel. The gospel of Christ, to uplift those in need, even at the expense of the wealthy and corrupt and to live a morally sound life (if not by a literal biblical interpenetration.) Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, these are grand and universal ideals to live by, far too often written off as socialism and attempts at the subversion of mainstream organized religion. To me, this begs the question: When did social uplift and protecting those in need become not solid morality, but dangerous Communism?
